Easy Quick Logo Tutorial

February 8th, 2010 // In Tips and Tutorials // 20 Babbles

Hello there ♥♥♥ How’s your lovely month? Doesn’t have a date for this coming heart’s day? Well, you can give your time for this post and love your designing passion :)

This is for those who want to learn on how to make a quick and easy logo design for their projects, freelancing and self logo for blogging. And also, this might help your freelancing activity especially to those who are new to freelancing.

I wanted to share the way I design a logo, yup, this is my specific way of designing a logo  And I hope this is a big help for you to make your own creations.

Now, we are going to create a logo for Digdesignz. I want it to be simple, readable, good looking when black and white version and the most important is easy to remember by the audiences. I categorized this as a Website logo not a Food logo, Clothing logo or etc.

Quick Logo Tutorial
DigDesignz

Requirements:
* Adobe Photoshop (Any version can do. I am using CS3)
* Own Idea.

Step 1
(click the image to enlarge)
Step 1
Use the Horizontal Type Tool to make a text on your screen. Now, start typing the 1st word in logo.
Step 2
(click the image to enlarge)
Step 2
Again, by using the Horizontal Type Tool, type the 2nd word of your logo but in other color. Make sure your chosen colors are compatible.
Step 3
(click the image to enlarge)
Step 3
This is optional. If you want to include your domain extension name, you can do it like this :) Perhaps it’s cool if you transformed it in counter clockwise. Edit > Transform > Rotate 90 Degrees CCW.
Step 4
(click the image to enlarge)
Step 4
Now, we are going to remove the dot from letter ‘i’ without rasterizing the text. Select the layer of the text you want to remove a dot, and click the Add Layer Mask from the layers palette. And then, use the Eraser Tool (press E on keyboard) to remove the dot from your selected layer.
Step 5
(click the image to enlarge)
Step 5
Do the same thing on step 4 for the 2nd layer of your logo.
Step 6
(click the image to enlarge)
Step 6
Using the Custom Shape Tool (press U on keyboard) with a shape of ‘Star’, locate it above of letter ‘i’. It’s your own choice of colors

And that’s it  Simple right? This is how I design a quick logo. Do you want to see my PSD file? Then you can download it here ;-)

Tips:
* Use 2-3 color combination.
* Think of a good font that may fit on it’s theme and name.
* Styled it like giving a drop shadow or just a slight gradient effect.
* Try to experiment on what is the best object to include on your text logo. Like what we did, star might be cute for my logo.
* Bevel emboss is not recommended. But if you designed a 3D style of logo, why not?

Note: This is just an example of logo making. This kind of steps can be use if you want to design a quick logo design from your projects.

Congratulations! You can now make your own logo design for your projects at school or even online :) I hope you enjoyed this simple tutorial and tips from me. Good luck!

    Hello Spencer,

Thank you very much for your message. I’ve been so quiet in almost 5 months and I am back into blogging. I saw your artworks and designs and your works are better than mine :) BTW, can we link-exchange?

    Regards,
    Sab

    Hi Sabrina,

Good to hear from you. It must have been a very busy 5 months for you with your freelance work. Thanks also that you appreciate my work. I also had my share of difficulties, bumps and thousands of rejections along the way and it’s part of a designer’s experience. I feel that we need to constantly upgrade our skills so I always tune in to various tutorials. I also believe that once in awhile we need to go back to basics and refresh our learnings. And I even learn from students and fresh graduates as well in designing too.

I am flattered on your invitation for an exchange link and would be interested. Just let me know on how to go about this and set it up.

Thanks and keep in touch
